Empower54 evacuates malnourished children in Bama

We are in the business of saving lives!

After we informed the Executive Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, of the extremely malnourished children rescued from Sambisa Forest by the Nigerian Army in Bama, he immediately instructed us to evacuate them to Maiduguri for treatment.

On Monday June 13th and Wednesday June 15th 2016, Empower54 and Borno SEMA evacuated the malnourished children and their families. Evacuation video

Empower54 had the difficult task of identifying the patients to be moved. Borno SEMA is providing shelter, food and medical care.

On Monday, over 1,000 extremely malnourished children were evacuated in 15 large school busses to a secure treatment location in Maiduguri provided by the Borno State government.

Despite heavy rains during Wednesday's evacuation, the Governor distributed 7 trucks of food to the IDPs at the camp, while Empower54 team identified children to be evacuated and successfully moved over 500 people.

We thank the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, for taking prompt action to save these lives as soon as his attention was drawn to the situation.

The children are responding to treatment and getting better daily. Well wishers can support Empower54's efforts and donate clothing and other items to help these victims as we all unite to Rise Above Terror.  Video of evacuation
