620,000 children receive free supplements during Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Program

Location: Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC) | Period: October 22nd – November 22nd 2018

PARTNERS: Vitamin Angels and Government of Province Du Mai-Ndombe

Empower 54 distributed free Vitamin A and Albendazole suplements to 620,000 (six hundred and twenty thousand) children in Province Du Mai-Ndombe, RDC during the annual MNCH program.

The following 14 communities in Province Du Mai-Ndombe received the commodities which were given to children between the ages of 6 months to 5 years:

BANZOW MOKE, BOKORO, BOLOBO, BOSOBE, INONGO, KIRI, KWAMOUTH, MIMIA, MUSHIE, NIOKI, NTANDEMBELO, OSHWE, PENDJWA, AND YUMBI.

The MNCH progam is a global bi-annual program which saves countless children from Vitamin A deficiencies, worms, diarrhea and related deaths.

Location: Edo State, Nigeria | Period: August 13th 2018 to September 8th 2018

PARTNERS: Vitamin Angels, Edo State Ministry of Health and LGA councils

Empower 54 commenced distribution of Albendazole, vitamin A 200,000 IU and prenatal vitamins in several communities in Edo State during the Phase 1 of our MNCH program in Edo State, Nigeria during which  20,506 (twenty thousand, five hundred and six) people benefited. 

Children between the ages of 6 months – 5 years and pregnant women in the following communities benefited:  

OWAN WEST LGA: SABONGIDDA-ORA, OZALLA, UZEBBA, OKPUJE, ERUERE, OHIA, SOBE, OBI CAMP, EDIKPI CAMP, OKPEJA 


OWAN EAST LGA: OHANMI, UROE 
ETSAKO WEST LGA:JATTU, AVIELE, AUCHI

AKOKO-EDO LGA: IGAARA, OSOSO, EGABETUA, UNEME NEKHUWA

NeVié (Nutrition and Education for Life)

Location: Abuja, Nigeria | Period: March 2017

PARTNERS: Australian Government, PPB & IMF

After our evacuation and care of 1,800 severly malnourished children from Bama IDP camp, Empower 54 has partnered with the Australian Government on the NeVié program which is focused on grass roots advocacy and provision of locally produced Ready-To-Use-Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) to end malnutrition in Africa.

This would reduce the stagering rate of child mortality caused by severe acute malnutrition. 6,000 severely malnourished children to benefit from the small-scale production.

$3M worth of humanitarian aid given to IDPs

Through the Empower 54’s "Empower 54 Gives" campaign we donated a 40 feet container containing a variety of high grade multi vitamins, malnutrition medication, gloves, syringes, sterile gauze, doctors stethoscopes, etc worth $3M to the Borno State government for distribution to IDPs in the State.

The donated container also contained highly nutritional meals for 160, 000 people.

31 IDP camps in Borno state that benefited from the distribution are: Custom House, Dalori, Damboa, Dikwa, Farm Centre, Banki Camp, Benisheck, Biu Camp, CAN Centre, CBN Camp, Goni Kachallai, Gubio, Gwoza, Jakaua, Kofa, Konduga, Madinath, Mogolis, Monguno, Muna, Nursing Village, Ngala, Nganidu, Nganzoi, NYSC, Rehabilitation Cutus, Shagari, Teachers Village, Zannari Camp, Bakassi Camp and Bama Camps.

1,800 severely malnourished children evacuated for treatment

PARTNERS: Nigerian Army & Borno State Government

Upon discovery of severely malnourished children rescued by the Nigerian Army from Boko Haram's captivity, Empower 54, the Nigerian Army and the Borno State government partnered to evacuate 1, 800 people from the BAMA IDP camp to Maiduguri for emergency treatment due to extreme malnutrition on June 13th and 15th 2016.

Empower 54 and the Borno State SEMA managed the children and their families at a secure location in Maiduguri for 6 months.

The evacuation of the children led to the creation of Empower 54's "NeVie (Nutrition and Education for Life" campaign and the Federeal Government of Nigeria to allocation special funds to address malnutrition in the country.

Our NeVie campaign focuses on the erradication of malnutrition in Africa through advocacy and use of Ready-To-Use-Therapeutic Foods (RUTF).

Construction of classrooms in IDP camp

Location: Maiduguri, Borno State | Period: June 2016

PARTNERS: Body Enhancement Ltd

The Bakasi camp house over 20,000 (twenty thousand) people, majority of them are children.

Due to the overwhelming population, classrooms are limited to accommodate the children.

Empower 54 constructed 3 large classrooms to accomodate 160 children at the Bakasi IDP camp. In addition to constructing the buldings, tables and chairs were also provided.

The Empower 54 African art gala in the City of Atlanta showcased stunning African Paintings and breathtaking handicrafts representing the Kings, Queens, traditions, and rich history of the legendary ancient Benin Kingdom (Edo State, Nigeria), videos and speeches about communities destoryed by Boko Haram.

During the event, Congressman Kwanza Hall presented Empower 54 with an offical Proclamation on the behalf of the City of Atlanta's Council as a sign of partnership and appreciation of its humanitarian activities in North Eastern Nigeria.

Governor Neal of Georgia also sent a prepresentative and letter of commendation to the event encouraging Empower 54.

Rise Above Terror..What Happens Next? Art Event

Our "Rise Above Terror" campaign has strategically raised awareness about the plight of IDPs living in North Easter Nigeria. 

The "Rise Above Terror..What Happens Next?" evening hosted Nigeria's diplomatic corp, government officials and press to a play and exibition about the trials of survivors of the terrorist attacks in the country.

2,840 children receive toys at Malkoi & NYSC IDP Camps

Location: Adamawa State, Nigeria | Period: September 2015

As part of Empower 54's "Rise Above Terror" campaign to rehabilitate IDPs in North Eastern Nigeria, toys are given to children as part of therapy after the trauma of witnessing acts of terrorism in their communities.

During our outreach program, we visited the distributed the Malkoi & NYSC IDP Camps in Yola and donated non-perishable foods, toys, clothes and educational material children at the IDP camps.

2,840 children benefited from the donations.
